WHAT TYPE DO I NEED?
Tracking your heart rate is a critical part of endurance training. You'll need a sports watch and a heart rate strap (either a chest strap or an upper-arm strap). Using your watch without a separate HR strap, you'll get very inaccurate readings due to jostling around on your arm when you exercise.
The chest strap fits securely on your upper torso. For me, the strap is placed right under the pecs. For women, the chest strap is placed right underneath the band of your sports bra. A chest strap is best, with the upper-arm strap a close second.
WHAT BRAND SHOULD I GET?
For any and all endurance-related tech (watches, HR monitors, bike computers, etc.), check out the DC Rainmaker website. He keeps an up-to-date list of recommended devices from all of the top brands at all price points. His reviews are spot on.
But before you purchase gear, don't forget to check out the "Perks" page on the MÅTTIV training app, to see what discounts are available to paid members of the app.
