During the signup process for the MōTTIV training app, we guide you through choosing how many workouts per week you should do in order to complete a triathlon, depending on what distance and what kind of finish you want to have when you race.

You can re-do this at any time to add or subtract workouts from your week.

To change the number of workouts you are assigned per week:

  1. Click "Schedule" in the left-hand menu on desktop or in the tabs on mobile.
  2. Click "Get Recommendations",
  3. Move the slider back and forth to set the number of hours per week you can spend on training. (Remember, the number of hours you choose will impact how you finish.  See below for an explanation of what Finish, Finish Feeling Strong, and Heading For the Podum mean.)

Once you set the slider to the amount of training you feel you can do, you can drag and drop your workouts so the layout of the training sessions suit your schedule.

If you want to add a workout that isn't already in your schedule, click any one of the blue + symbols and you'll see a dropdown menu which offers extra workouts you can add from each discipline. (If a workout is greyed-out, that means it's not available.)

FINISH, FINISH STRONG, HEADING FOR THE PODIUM:

  1. Finish: This means you are training to be able to simply finish the race. This is the minimum amount of training you would have to do to finish your race distance of choice. First-time athletes are often just trying to finish. This is also what people choose if they have very little time to train but still want to participate in races.

  2. Finish Strong: People who want to finish strong hope to finish at least in the middle of the pack. They want to feel fit, confident, and good on the course, not struggling or pulling themselves along. Finishing strong requires more training time than just finishing.

  3. Heading For The Podium: Heading for the podium is for people looking to:
  • Notch personal best race times,
  • Qualify for World Championship races,
  • Win their age group in a race.

(Podium/Competitive finishes typically take the maximum amount of training per week, up to two workouts per day, every day of the week.)
